Why Fotronix exists

Fotronix was founded by Reiss Jerham, a network engineer with a personal passion for analog photography. Watching labs run critical scanning operations on Windows XP machines nobody could patch, support, or replace was the problem that started it — keeping an SP3000 alive shouldn't mean keeping a twenty-year-old PC alive too.

What began as SP3000 virtualisation has grown into a broader practice: infrastructure, software, and process engineering for labs — and increasingly, for the photographers those labs shoot for. The thread through all of it is the same: deep, specific expertise in how film labs actually run, delivered without asking anyone to ship a scanner or wait for a site visit.

Remote-first, not remote-only

Every install is designed to be done remotely. On-site happens only when a job genuinely needs a hand on the hardware — we've worked on-site across Europe, the UK, and beyond when it did.

The person behind Fotronix

Fotronix is run by Reiss Jerham — a network engineer by trade and a film photographer by choice. The company started because those two things kept colliding: in day jobs he'd see critical systems run on hardware nobody would accept anywhere else, and in his own shooting he kept meeting lab owners fighting the same battle — decades-old PCs quietly holding entire businesses together.

The first Fotronix job was keeping an SP3000 alive by moving it off Windows XP entirely. It worked, the lab never looked back, and word travelled the way it does in this industry — one lab owner telling another. That referral chain, not advertising, is still how most labs find us.

The approach hasn't changed since that first install: treat a lab's scanner like the production-critical machine it is, do the work remotely so the lab keeps running, and leave things more reliable than they were found. It's engineering for an industry we actually care about — because we shoot film too.
